WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA—One Wheeling Girl Scout has received a national scholarship as part of her Gold Award project.
Paige Messner, an Ambassador in the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council, received Girl Scouts’ highest honor by developing a Gold Award project that addressed the need to spread awareness on mental health. Through her project, Messner trained for 80 hours and helped host a teen mental health event.
Furthermore, Messner passed out pamphlets as well as 988 stickers and magnets to students at Sherrard Middle School and John Marshall High School.
By earning the Girl Scout Gold Award Scholarship, Messner’s achievements have been recognized on a national level. Her project showcases the core components of the Gold Award and demonstrates her leadership and citizenship skills.
"Earning the Girl Scout Gold Award is truly a remarkable achievement, and Paige exemplifies leadership in all its forms," said Beth Casey, chief executive officer of the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond.
"She saw a need in her community and took action. Her extraordinary dedication, perseverance and leadership is making the world a better place, and we hope this scholarship enables her to continue doing so."
