HURRICANE, WEST VIRGINIA—One Putnam County Girl Scout has received the highest honor a Girl Scout can achieve: The Gold Award.
Bailey Philyaw, a rising Ambassador in the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council, developed a project to increase the amount of Girl Scout recognition at the World Scouting Museum, which recently relocated to Charleston, West Virginia.
Through her project, West Virginia Scout History Awareness, Philyaw helped make sure Girl Scouts are well represented at the museum, helped produce a guided audio tour and created display cases for vintage Girl Scout uniforms among other tasks.
By earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, Philyaw has become a community leader. Her accomplishments reflect leadership and citizenship skills that set her apart.
"Earning the Girl Scout Gold Award is truly a remarkable achievement, and Bailey exemplifies leadership in all its forms," said Beth Casey, chief executive officer of the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond.
"She saw a need in her community and took action. Her extraordinary dedication, perseverance and leadership is making the world a better place."
Community members are invited to celebrate Girl Scouts just like Bailey at the upcoming Power Her Promise: A Celebration of Gold Award Girl Scouts event taking place Saturday, June 15 at the Charleston Marriott Town Center in Charleston, West Virginia.
