BECKLEY, WEST VIRGINIA—Girl Scouts from local troops have been honored for their hard work to improve the community.
Girl Scout Cadettes Alexa Bieri, Alaysia Rogers, Amiya Penn, Jamiyah Rogers, Lillian Meadows and Jasmine Arriola from Troops 35392 and 32547 based out of Raleigh County, have each been awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award for their project "Build A Permanent Flag Retirement Area at Wooten Park."
The Girl Scouts helped build a location at the park in Beckley with a permanent fire pit area to properly retire American flags. There was a buildup of old, discarded flags at the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority, so the Girl Scouts raised money and helped construct an area to properly retire the flags.
Before earning the awards, the Girl Scouts were responsible for learning information regarding issues they are passionate about. They then implemented a plan of action to make a difference in their community.
“Earning the Silver Award is a wonderful accomplishment. These Girl Scouts are recipients of this award because of their dedication to and passion for making the world a better place,” said Beth Casey, Chief Executive Officer for the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council.
