Jesse Owens State Park McConnelsville, Morgan County
Jesse Owens State Park is a success story in environmental stewardship, conservation, and reclaiming land for outdoor recreation. This park and the surrounding Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area were recovered from past coal mining and now support acres of grasslands, brushlands, lakes, and ponds that support the area's vast wildlife populations. In early 2026, ODNR celebrates the opening of the new Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area Visitor Center which features robust displays on local wildlife and an opportunity to view live bison, in partnership with The Wilds. A brand-new campground and cabins at Jesse Owens State Park expand overnight amenities for visitors.

Capacity: 20
Learn the basics of fishing. Then, fry up your catch with our partners at the Division of Wildlife! Equipment is provided. Participants 16 years and older require a valid Ohio fishing license to fish.
12:30 - 1:30 p.m. | Archery | BJCSA
Capacity: 20 Try your hand at archery at the range at Hook Lake. Instruction and equipment are provided. This program requires an activity waiver.
2 - 3 p.m. | Nature Craft | All Ages
Capacity: 20 Relax and enjoy making crafts with materials from nature.
3:30 - 4:30 p.m. | Bison Encounter | All Ages
Capacity: 20
See bison from the deck of the Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area Visitor Center. Learn some fascinating facts about this incredible animal from the Naturalist.

- This is a drop in event! Stop by anytime during the event to enjoy! We suggest arriving at least one hour prior to the end of the event to have the best experience.
- Does your Girl Scout need additional support or assistance? Please use the "Special Circumstances" box to share with us what we can do to make this day comfortable and enjoyable for your Girl Scout!
- This is NOT a drop off event! Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Staff and Volunteers will be on site but will not be responsible for the safety or oversight of children in attendance. Please plan for your Girl Scout to attend with a responsible adult.
