Stepping Up to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience

Troop Leader Orientation

In addition to the three steps that must be completed by all new volunteers, new Troop Leaders should complete the following three steps within the timeframes listed (If you serve multiple grade levels, you’ll want to watch multiple grade level videos.)

Step 1: Jump-start to Troop Leadership -
              Within 30 Days of Appointment

The Jump-start to Troop Leadership session is designed for new troop leaders/co-leaders and assistant leaders. The session is designed to be the initial mentorship session with a Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council staff representative, the Membership Services Manager. By learning where to find the valuable volunteer resources available, getting your troop registered, completing volunteer screening, getting parents on board as well as ideas for starting your first few meetings, you’ll be able to jump-start your volunteer troop leadership experience! While this session is designed for the new volunteer, anyone interested in providing volunteer support to the troop can take it. Seasoned volunteers may even consider this session as a good refresher! This session is offered in multiple formats including an in-person meeting and a webinar virtual meeting. Check with your Membership Services Manager, GSBDC representative, to discuss scheduling a session in your region or see O.N.E. magazine for a training schedule that may include the Jump-Start sessions. Register for a webinar now!
