2009 - 2010 Volunteer Resource Packet (fka: the Program Packet)
For facilitators, the Volunteer Resource Packet contained the Troop Module, Volunteer Essentials, Council Essentials as well as Safety-Wise updates, information about the religious awards girls can earn, and a survey we ask facilitators to return to let us know how well this packet meets their needs. Here is more information about the pieces as well as links pertinent documents:
- Volunteer Essentials is a resource provided by Girl Scouts of the USA written for volunteers serving in any pathway. It offers nationally consistent information about Girl Scouts as a movement and a tradition, asks volunteers to assess their own skills and competencies, discusses the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and Journeys, highlights other program offerings, shares information about healthy development in girls, instructs volunteers in how to keep girls safe, gives information on taking trips and hosting events, and tells volunteers how to help girls manage group finances, including details on Girl Scout Cookie sale.
- The Troop Module is an add-on to Volunteer Essentials, designed especially for volunteers in the troop pathway. It includes topics such as how to form a troop committee, how to hold a parent/guardian first meeting, and how to plan and hold troop meetings. In years to come, GSUSA intends to provide modules for each pathway to Girl Scouting. We suggest facilitators read and explore Volunteer Essentials before starting on the Troop Module.
- With Council Essentials we are providing council specific information – general council information, volunteer policies, frequently used forms, FAQs regarding insurance, program resources including information about program kits, service projects, council’s own awards and more.
