One of the highlights of the Annual Meeting is always a silent auction on Friday evening (plus Saturday morning before the meeting begins).
Everyone is invited to join in the fun. Service Units may choose to gather lots of small items together to make a beautiful basket presentation. Businesses may donate gift certificates for products or services. Individuals may want to donate a hand crafted item or something that reflects the culture of their community.
Last year we auctioned everything including a handmade quilt, stuffed toy animals, one-of-a-kind stained glass window, and baskets filled with goodies. In the past we auctioned golf outings, college football tickets, the use of a luxury condominium, and a few romantic dinners.
This year we will be having Purse and Backpack Auction. Everyone is invited to bring a purse or backpack to the exciting live Auction. Use your imagination for items to fill your purse or backpack so the lucky purchaser will be thrilled and surprised with their purchase. Your purse or backpack can be new, old, handmade, common or unique! It doesn’t matter! Items in the purse or backpack will not be revealed until the bids are closed and the buyer proudly chooses to display her/his collection of items contained in the purse or backpack. Start gathering items now. Just make sure that the items in the purse or backpack have some value. We would like to suggest that a minimum value of items be no less than $25.00 and up, however, that is a suggested guideline. No purse or backpack will be refused.
Please let us know what you are planning to bring by March 21, 2008, so we can make plans to display your auction item in an appropriate and attractive manner. (See below to submit your information online.) Once you decide what items you will contribute, you may:
• bring your auction item to the Service Center in Charleston, W.Va.
• deliver your donation to your local Field Center where a Field Executive will transport the item to the auction
• bring your auction item with you to the Annual Meeting (Please arrange to have all auction items checked in at the Charleston Marriott by 4 p.m. on April 11, 2008.)
