Age Levels: Junior Girl Scouts

History comes alive in this hands-on workshop to experience a typical 1800’s school day. Join the Ohio Historical Center for an old school day! The morning will open with deep breathing exercises and a lesson in acceptable 19th century school behavior. Then students will continue on writing with nib pens and ink, reading lessons with McGuffey Readers, a spelling bee, arithmetic, geography and schoolyard amusements. Girls are encouraged to dress in the clothes of the time period (long skirts, long sleeve blouses, bonnets, and shawls) and to bring a time-period lunch. Girls will need to assemble a copybook and make their own ink prior to the program. Instructions will be sent out two weeks prior to program.
