Girl STEM Conference

Girl Scouts are on the EDGE of a techno-revolution!  Never before have had girls such fun-filled opportunities to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.   Stay at Fairmont State University, and attend sessions such as determining your Ecological Footprint, Rocketry, and Physics.

Amazing Chase Weekend Camp

Trek across camp with your team, overcoming challenges along the way. For example, you may work with your  team to complete the scavenger hunt or will you complete the geocaching course Your challenges will lead you around camp testing your skills and making new friends in the process. Most importantly, the weekend will help you to develop team building skills.  This is much sought after skill that you can use over and over in the future, whether it be to work on a Journey Take Action Project, complete a school group assignment, or use it for a future job.

Girl Scout Night at Appalachian Power Park

Play Ball! Take your family and friends to the Applachian Power Park to watch the West Virginia Power team in action against the Lakewood BlueClaws.  There will be on-field Girl Scout parade at 6:30 pm prior to the start of the game. Also, this evening marks the appearance of ZOOperstars! These lovable, outrageous, zany inflatable animalistic superstars will delight any crowd In addition you can enhance your experience by adding on the Fun Zone (inflatable games, etc.) option for the kids. You may choose to arrive early to take part in a special pre-game picnic. You can also decide to make it a perfect game and add on a ball park meal combo (hot dogs, chips, cookie and a drink).  Don’t forget save room and to bring money to buy your peanuts and Cracker Jacks during the game! 

After we “root, root, root!” for the home team, consider sticking around for the coolest back yard camp-out in the state.  Set up a tent to camp on the outfield with your family.  Enjoy a movie under the stars and play ballpark games after hours.  All participants will receive a special patch and t-shirt to remember the game.  Please indicate sizes of t-shirts needed on registration form. 

Sign up up for the fun. Surely, you’ll  end up wanting to sing the old ball game song favorite, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” sometime during the evening.

*Note: Game confirmation info/camp-out pack list will be sent approximately one week before the event.  Tickets will be picked up at a special Girl Scout check-in table at the gate. Children under the age of  7 must be accompanied by a parent to attend camp-out.  Tents must be stakeless, so as not to damage the field.  Add-on options available: Pre-game picnic (all-you-can-eat buffet) - $10, Game meal (hotdog, chips and drink) - $5, Play All Day Fun Zone wristband - $5.

Iron Chef Weekend Camp

Learn some novel ways of cooking outdoors from making a dinner in a Dutch oven  to cooking bacon and eggs in a paper bag! Ever make an egg on a stick? You’ll even learn about planning nutritious meals. Outdoor cooking is cool and fun for all ages. So afterwards, you can impress your family and friends with your special “iron chef” cooking techniques and skills.
Note: Participants will be placed in camp’s platform tents or half cabin unit to sleep in the evening.

Horse Tails

Are you wild about horses?  Then make your pilgrimage to the original 1,000 acre Bob Evans farm in Rio Grande, OH. During the hands-on lessons, you will learn about horse anatomy and psychology, as well as how to care for horses.  Get some “horse sense” when you learn how math skills are needed when dealing with horse habits and behaviors. You’ll also meet a veterinarian and explore other possible future careers in the world of horses. In addition, you will take a couple of guided trail rides in the hills surrounding the barn. When not riding or horsing around, participants will visit the Homestead Museum, log cabin village, small animal barnyard, quilt barn, and more “down on the farm.” Participants will lodge nearby in the dorms at Rio Grande University. Leave with memories of this outdoor adventure and be inspired to tell others about your experience with horses this weekend.
NOTE:  Participants must be at least 10 years of age and 4’10” tall in order to ride. Otherwise, the saddle stirrups won’t fit you.
