100th Anniversary Volunteer Opportunities
For those adults interested in volunteering time to assist at an event during Paint the Town Green, a stipend is available that will waive the registration fee if you agree to a commitment of a 4-hour volunteer shift. Volunteer opportunities are vast and include everything from security, coordinating flash mobs, chaperoning girl zone and excursion activities and much, much more. It is anticipated that we will need approximately 400-500 volunteers to make the weekend a success and your assistance is much appreciated!
Girl Scouts Grand Parade
Help us plan a parade to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts! We would like to paint the town Green throughout the city showing our Girl Scout Pride, with a GRAND parade. We will need your help do this. To aid in organizing the parade; you can assist with scheduling, location hunt, set up, recruitment of volunteer judges, logistics, participant recruitment and event parameters. Our street fair will be bustling with activity and we want to display as many talented members as possible on that day. Black Diamond Bash
Volunteers are needed to join the planning committee for the “Black Diamond Bash”, an adult-only event to be held on Saturday evening, May 5, 2012 at the Civic Center in Charleston, WV. This spectacular evening will be the primary fund raising component of our 100th celebration and will include a reception, silent auction, live auction, formal dinner, live entertainment, dancing … you name it! Guests will include local and state dignitaries, corporate sponsors, business and community leaders, Girl Scout alumni … anyone wanting to show support for Girl Scouts and join in the festivities to celebrate the amazing milestone of providing 100 years of leadership opportunities to girls!
We will need 40-50 volunteers in order to plan a stellar “Black Diamond Bash.” Volunteers are needed to assist with:
- Obtaining sponsors/Selling tickets/Promoting event
- Registration & Checkout at the event
- Procuring auction items
- Setup & display of Silent Auction
- Managing the Silent Auction
- Runners, spotters & recorders for the Live Auction
- Logistics (menu, decorations, signage, entertainment, etc.)

Cupcake Challenge
Everyone loves cupcakes! What better way to celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouts than by creating special cupcakes? Enter your troop in The Great GS Cupcake Challenge! Troops across the council will compete in local challenges. Winners of the local challenges will then move on to regional challenges. The finalists of regional challenges will compete during the 100th Anniversary Celebration in Charleston. Cupcakes will be judged on taste, design and originality. Detailed information and rules for competition will be provided to service units in early fall. In addition to participants, volunteers are needed to help operate Cupcake Challenge events both during the 100th Anniversary Celebration and in regional competitions. Volunteers will be needed to help set up and maintain the events, as well as serve as judges for the event-what a tasty job! Girl’s Own
We need YOU! We are getting ready to “Paint the Town Green” in 2012! We are looking for volunteer help in putting together a complete day of “Girl’s Own” activity stations for Saturday, May 5, 2012 as part of the 100th anniversary celebration in Charleston. Volunteers are needed to do the pre-planning of all activity stations, which will fall into certain themes or “zones” that will be decided as part of the planning committee. This group of people will help to decide what to offer and do a lot of brainstorming. In addition, we need “woman power” to run pre-planned activity stations the day of the event. Conference calls have already begun for the brainstorming process but will continue throughout the school year. We need more volunteers! Street Fair
Join in the fun with Black Diamond’s 100th Year Anniversary Street Fair. Yes, we will be celebrating together with a Black Diamond Street Fair May 5th, 2012 from 10 am to 4 pm here in Charleston, WV. This is your chance to be a part of the action as a volunteer with benefits. There will be several opportunities for various discounts and perks of volunteering your time to support our centennial celebration. It is estimated that our celebration will take a team of over 150 volunteers and staff working reasonable hour shifts to make this a great centennial event.

Volunteer Position Description Development
Three to six volunteers are needed to write position descriptions for all volunteer job positions in which we anticipate that we will need to support an event of this scale. Information, qualifications and a job description template will be provided to volunteers working on the development of position descriptions.
On-Site Volunteer Registration
Hundreds of volunteers will be checking in the weekend of the 100th Anniversary Celebration – Paint the Town Green event. Fifteen to twenty volunteers are needed to work shifts at the multiple registration check-in centers that will be scattered throughout the event locations.
100th Birthday Event Training
On-site Paint the Town Green event training will be a priority in the support and development of all event volunteers. We are looking for four to eight current volunteer trainers to work with the Volunteer Services to write this training. We are also looking for volunteer trainers to offer their training services in scheduled shifts during the weekend event.
Event Volunteer Hospitality
Ensuring that volunteers are comfortable, well supported and taken care of is an important part of volunteer satisfaction, performance and retention. We are appreciative of volunteers who take time out of their personal and professional lives to offer their unique services to Girl Scouts. We are looking for five to ten volunteers to organize all hospitality services for the Paint the Town Green event volunteers. This is a special position, as it requires positive energy and a friendly smile to take care of the needs of our event volunteers.
100th Anniversary Event Volunteer Recognition
During the Paint the Town Green Event, we would like to offer small to large tokens of appreciation to all event volunteers. A committee of three to five volunteers is needed to determine the best plan of action to recognize our event volunteers. If you like giving thanks and being creative, this might be a good fit for you!
