Wild and Wonderful Girl Scouts - Camp Out
Girl Scouts have the option of completing their wild and wonderful adventure with the National Park Service at Camp Brookside Environmental Education Center at New River Gorge National River. Girl Scouts will participate in organized activities that will help them become a Girl Scout Ranger. They will participate in science-based activities to learn about the park and its natural resources. Brownies and Juniors can earn the Space Science badge; Cadettes will earn the Night Owl Badge; and Seniors can earn the sky badge. Girl Scouts must attend the camp out portion as a troop in proper ratio. Adults must be current members and have a successful background check on file with Black Diamond Council.
Dinner and Breakfast will be served at the event. Please bring a reusable water bottle for the event.
We will be outside most of the weekend, so please dress according to the weather forecast. Clothes should be comfortable and footwear should be sneakers, hiking boots, or something similar.
Please bring a sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries, PJs, sunblock, insect repellent, flash light, at least 2 sets of clothes(head to toe), a jacket or sweat shirt and water shoes or old shoes (NO flip flops). Any medication needs to be with your leader. Also, bring your sash/vest for the ceremony (It will not be worn during the other activities). Please do NOT bring valuables; such as jewelry, electronics, etc.
Driving Directions: From I-64: exit at Exit 139 (Hinton/Sandstone), turn left onto Route 20 South for 5 miles, turn right onto North Mullens Road, follow road over the RR tracks, then bear left; cross a bridge and follow the dirt road through gate into Camp Brookside.
