Council-wide Service Project
As Girl Scouts, part of our pledge includes the promise to help people at all times. Indeed, cheerful community service is one of the key parts of the Girl Scout Mission. To help fulfill our mission to make the world a better place, we invite Girl Scouts to take part in an annual, council-wide service project. Girl Scouts all over the council will be able to participate in this project to make a lasting, positive impact on their communities.
This year’s project is to create no-sew T-shirt blankets to donate to those in need. This project is fun and inexpensive, and will allow girls to hand-craft beautiful and warm blankets. The T-shirts for these blankets may be donated by troop members, purchased from a thrift store, or your troop can collect T-shirts from the public as the first part of their project. This year, we will be partnering with MedExpress, which will be collecting shirts that Girl Scouts can pick up and use. Inside the guide is a directory of MedExpress locations that will be participating!
The project runs from October 2016 till the end of September 2017. Included in this guide are instructions on making the blankets, how to share your pictures and stories with us, and how you can earn your Covered with Care patch for taking action and completing a community service report!
Through community service, you have the power to use the skills you have learned in Girl Scouting to help those in need. If you have questions, or if we can help you make your project a success, feel free to contact us at 304-345-7722. We are excited to work together with you this Girl Scout year to bring comfort to the most vulnerable members of our neighborhoods.
