West Virginia Youth Environmental Program

The West Virginia Youth Environmental Program (YEP) is a program sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection. Its mission is to educate the state's young citizens about the importance of a healthy environment and to inspire them to participate in environmental projects within their communities. Enrolling in the program is free and there are no obligations once a group signs up. The YEP offers cash awards to groups such as the Girl Scouts, who complete environmental projects. To qualify for an award, a group must submit a report detailing its project. The YEP offers many learning opportunities through hands-on activities, camps, and conferences. Activities include lessons in recycling, water conservation, the water cycle, pollution prevention and waste reduction, watersheds, energy conservation, and other environmental topics. The YEP also sponsors annual events such as State Junior Conservation Camp, the Youth Environmental Conference and Youth Environmental Day and can assist groups who wish to participate in cleanup projects that remove trash from the state's rivers, streams, and roadways. Please contact Annette Hoskins at 304-926-0499, ext. 1659 or at Annette.L.Hoskins@wv.gov to be connected to an agent in your area.
