Membership Dues Increase in 2017

By now, many of you may have seen the announcement from Girl Scouts of the USA’s National Board that effective October 1st 2017, the annual membership fee for both girls and adults will be $25. Since we know that our Girl Scout volunteers and parents like to plan, we wanted to share this information with you well in advance of it actually taking place. We are dedicated to continuing to help girls in our 61 counties thrive and we know you are too!

A Girl Scout membership is one of the most valuable investments anyone can make. Where else can roughly $2 per month prepare girls to empower themselves not just for a season, but for life? When compared to other extracurricular activities, the wide variety of experiences girls receive from participating in Girl Scouts is still the best value. For instance, consider that:

  • Recreational youth sports cost upwards of $75 for a single season
  • Gymnastics classes in Morgantown or dance classes in Parkersburg cost around $55 per month, and
  • Music lessons in Tazewell cost $60 an hour

Every dollar of membership dues is sent to Girl Scouts of the USA to cover the cost of fundamental services supporting the Girl Scout Movement. This includes, but is not limited to,

  • Research
  • Investment and development of new technology platforms
  • Enhancements to girls’ program experiences in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)
  • Entrepreneurship
  • The outdoors
  • Life Skills

Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council is committed to continuing to support all girls, regardless of financial means. We will continue to provide financial assistance and will be working with troops and their leaders to make sure no Girl Scout is unable to participate because of an inability to pay.
